The Implementation Project (TIP) is excitedly preparing for participation in the upcoming annual session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and will be hosting a side event panel of distinguished speakers: Implementing FPIC Across the Regions. This event brings together individuals with expertise on regions including Latin America, North America, Asia, and Africa to discuss implementation of the Declaration’s safeguard of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). With co-sponsors the National Congress of American Indians and Nia Tero, TIP plans a comparative panel analyzing new national legislation, as well as examples of Indigenous Peoples’ own laws, customs, and traditions, and industry protocols –focusing on measures developed after 2020.

This event features Indigenous Leaders, Inter-Tribal Organizations, United Nations Mandate Holders, Universities, and NGOs. TIP will present research toward a draft publication, “The Tribal Guide to Implementing FPIC in the Context of Conservation and Development”, which aims to empower Tribal governments and Indigenous Peoples to develop, publish, and enforce laws and protocols around FPIC in alignment with implementing the Declaration.

Implementing FPIC Across the Regions will take place in-person only, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 3:00–4:15 PM (ET), in Conference Room 4 at the UNHQ Building. Confirmed registration to UNPFII is required to attend the side events.
