On Monday, April 24th The Implementation Project held our UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues Side Event titled “Advancing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples”, featuring speakers Judge Greg Bigler, (Fmr.) Amb Keith HarperMr. Ira Matt, and President Fawn Sharp

Adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ rights to survival, self-determination, land and culture, political participation and child welfare, as well as the safeguard of “free, prior, and informed consent”. Join us while we discuss the current state of advancing the UN Declaration and hear about the work being done to realize the promises of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

This event was sponsored by The Native American Rights Fund, The University of Colorado Law School, The National Congress of American Indians, The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and The National American Indian Court Judges Association

You can find more information about additional side events, along with the full Programme of Work for the Session, on the UNPFII Twenty-Second Session Website .
